My New Website!

Wed Oct 7, 2009, 9:49 AM
Hello Everyone(^_^)^_^)

Long time no see or should I say read. We've been busy lately with working on my new website. My wonderful girlfriend deserves most of the credit for building it as she did all the meat and potatoes of the website. I just did the art and writing. I also did some designing of a few pages, but the look of it was all done by her. I know I love it and I hope you do too. We had this site for a while, but it wasn't complete. For one the gallery was not finished so we totally revamped the look to what it is now. Should be rather easy to navigate. Just click on an image to enlarge and if you want more info click on the details button bellow the picture. The contact page wasn't working but we got that up and running now. We also added a blog which we didn't have before. I'm new to blogging so bare with me as I adjust. I hope to post every week or so, depending on how busy I am. Also in the future I plan on having a shop, just need to work out the details and funds to see if I'm ready. As of now the site is mostly completed, there will be changes or tweeks from time to time as we will be coming up with new ideas to improve the look and feel to make it a more comfortable site to view and enjoy. So if you have time please check it out and make sure to come back again from time to time so that you don't miss out on any updates. We will still update on DA too, but most of my time will be concentrated on my own site.

Now for the link, it's pretty easy, just my name:

Thanks for your time:D

Oh, one more thing, right now Becca is working on her own site, so look forward to that in the near future. We will all most likely be blown away because she is a great designer.

Take care and God Bless,
Jon and Becca

Selling one of a kind art and prints?

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 31, 2009, 4:08 PM
Would you buy art work from me?

Hello Everyone(^_^)^_^)

I was thinking today about offering to sell art here on DA. What I propose to do is paint 9in. x 12in. paintings because they are relatively small and easy to ship. I would post them on my journal and sell them through here or maybe auction them on ebay. I was also thinking about having prints made for whichever painting you wanted, either limited editions or regular prints. It's possible I might explore the option of doing commissions too, say if you wanted certain colors or scenes or maybe a picture of you in one of my landscapes. Somewhere along those lines, so that you would get what you want but still allow me to have a lot of my creativeness and style to shine through.

Anyway, I was just wondering how interested everyone was in that aspect. Prices wouldn't be cheap because I take pride in my art and need to make a living, but they also won't be sky high. I'm thinking around 50USD and higher for original 9x12 paintings depending if I sell or auction them. As for prints 25 to 75USD for regular prints and 100 to 200USD for limited edition prints. This is all just estimates right now to give you an idea. Right now I'm looking for feedback to see what kind of interest there is here on DA. Please let me know, hopefully very soon you could possibly be hanging my art in your home. I guarantee that in the future my work will be worth more than what you pay for it because I'm not quitting until I have perfected my craft. Which for me will never happen because I know there is always room for improvement:D

Take care and God Bless,
Jon and Becca

I'm thinking...ART

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 24, 2009, 3:48 PM
What Makes a Painting Interesting?

Hello Everyone(^_^)^_^)

Art should be one of the main things people think about on DA. If not I don't know why they are here, they should be on Myspace or Facebook. Then again, not everyone here is all about art like me:P haha. I know this is supposed to be a journal to tell you all about the things happening in our lives, but I would rather talk about art.

By the way, just in case you were wondering. I've been working on sketches trying to decide which one to paint, while Rebecca has been painting and learning things about web design. Hopefully soon we can get a website up and running:D

Anyway, back to the topic of this journal. What makes a painting interesting to you? Is it color, subject, style, lighting, composition, etc. I know it really comes down to personal tastes for most people, but what I'm talking about is art in general. You know how when you are just browsing around and you come across a piece of art that isn't quite your type but it just does everything right and grabs your attention to where you say, "I LOVE THAT." I find my self breaking away from the same old mold and seeing art for more than just what I like and seeing the beauty from within. The way everything fits together, making it unique:) I'm not saying I love all art. There is still plenty that I can't stand, it's just the way I am, but I'm now more open to seeing art for what it is instead of what I want it to be.

What makes an interesting painting for me is the ability to grab the eye and make you want to look deeper, look for more or wish for more:D Color is very key. The right colors can change the way you feel, they create a mood for the piece. The intensity of color can make it come alive. Another element is light. Lighting can make or break a painting or drawing, it's what gives it depth, without it things just look flat. Last but not least is flow. The element that brings all things together. Flow or placement of things can totally change how you view a piece of art. Objects need to draw the eye in and make it flow to the focal point. Everything should compliment each other and not steal attention away. It's what makes art so fun. Trying to obtain that perfect combination of ingredients that make the ultimate recipe. What separates the good from the best is the knowing that you can never achieve the ultimate recipe, that there is always room for improvement. So never get complacent with your art, always strive for more:D

Thanks for listening to my rambling once again. If you have anything you would like me to talk about or give my opinion on let me know and I just might talk about it in my next journal:D Take care and have fun creating:D

God bless,
Jon and Becca

Why are you here?

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 17, 2009, 12:16 PM
TWO OF A KIND

Hello Watchers and visitors(^_^)^_^)

How are you all doing? I know it's been a while. We don't write journals much but we're hoping to change that in the future. We're going to try to write at least once a week. I figure you might want to know more about us. We also want to know more about you, which is the topic of this journal today.

First off, just in case you are wondering. I'm Jonathon, the one who will mostly be writing these journals. Right now Rebecca is painting and usually has other things she is doing, so it's mostly me who is managing our page. Still that doesn't mean she doesn't look in or reply, so If you have any questions for her specifically or for me, feel free to ask away:D

Now back to the purpose of this journal. As some of you may know from my far earlier journals is that I'm kind of a deep thinker or for a better term, a procrastinator(we love to think);) There are always all kinds of ideas and thoughts swimming around in my head. Most of the time it is about Rebecca :P hehe and the rest is usually all about art:D Art is my passion or should I say creating is. I'm sure if you asked Rebecca she would say the same:) We just love to make something beautiful out of nothing. I bet many of you feel the same and for those who aren't artist they enjoy art because through it they feel what we felt while creating it. Art is all about feeling. If you don't feel anything when creating it, chances are no one is going to when they view it.

I don't know about you, but I'm a introvert. Not the type of person that loves to go out and socialize. I believe most artists are. It's what makes us good at what we do. We have to be happy spending hours and hours working on something without getting bored by being alone. We sort of live in our own world when we create, at least I know I do. The point is art is a rather social medium so it's hard for us introverts to get seen. That's why DA is such a wonderful place. It's a way for us to be seen, to break out of our world or to bring others into ours. That is the reason I joined DA. For many many years, probably almost a decade no one but my immediate family saw my paintings. I love my art and have always prayed that someday others may love it to. That hopefully I could bring joy to others with my art. When I found DA that is when I realized that here is a chance to show others my worlds, my dreams and hopefully find kindred spirits. It's been great so far. There are so many wonderful people here. Some create and some watch but each one contributes something important to the world of art.

Now I guess before I make a long story longer I'll get to my questions. Why did you join DA? What exactly are you looking for? Most importantly have you found what you were looking for?

For us I think our reasons and goals have changed. We found each other on DA and that wasn't expected. I do believe though that I did find some of what I was looking for or should I say you found me. At first it was all about me. To be honest I had a different view of what art is. I thought highly of myself and thought others would too, but DA didn't prove that. Recognition is a slow process, just like art is. Instead of seeing good and bad art I started to just see art for what it is, a personal thing. We are all at different stages. At one time my art was great according to me. Now I see art that was as good as I was then and instead of greatness I see art that has a lot of room for improvement. So I find myself changing the way I view my own art and others. No matter where we are at in art or in life we can always improve, all it takes is us seeing it and believing in it. I no longer think I'm the best, but I believe in being the best that I can be. Which is why I will always see room for improvement and strive to do better with each new step I take.

Art shouldn't be a contest, it should be a journey. Enjoy your journey and if you should see someone hobbling along or sitting on the side of the road make sure to stop and help them so that they can continue too. That's what we hope to do from now on. If we can help out we would love to offer advice on your art, help you improve and continue on your journey of art, the self exploration of your soul. Of course don't take us for granted, we can't spend all our time helping and we won't do your art for you. When we have time to spare we will be glad to help. An artist needs to walk by themselves, not ride piggy back:D Now it's time for me to shut up:P Let's get back to work and have fun creating:D

P.S. Sorry for the long journal, had a lot to say:D

Trying a new look

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 25, 2008, 8:56 AM
TWO OF A KIND

We're back(^_^)^_^)

Hello everyone:D It's been awhile. We've been too busy spending time with each other to keep up with everything on DA. Sorry for the long wait, I hope you enjoy our latest work and hope to have future work posted sooner rather than later:P Good to see so many of our watchers and people we watch creating such beautiful work, sorry if we haven't commented much:) We all may have talent, some more and some less, but we still all have to work at it. The more we do the better we get. I know that years ago I thought I was pretty good, but looking back I can see I needed much improvement. Always look forward and know you can get better. Don't give up, it's the failures that teach us to be better. Hope you are all doing great and that it's a beautiful day wherever you are. Enough of my babbling, hehe, lets get back to creating!;) :D
